Rabbit Care

These following steps will keep your rabbit happy and healthy:

Make sure your hutch is away from any drafts and if possible put their hutch into a shed, garage or anywhere out of the cold weather in the winter.  To help keep your rabbit house dry inside, first lay a layer of newspaper across the floor and then a layer of wood shavings to absorb wet, and straw on top to keep your rabbit warm.

Ensure your rabbit has plenty of  water and hay.  The hay will help keep their teeth down, you can get hay racks from any good pet shops and specially designed water bottles.

Our rabbits are fed rabbit food, a mixture of dried vegetables, wheat and pellets.  Also fresh grass, dandelions and carrots.  Please ensure you do not feed lettuce or too much of any other fresh vegetables or salad as this can lead to diarrhoea and can rot their liver.

Myxomatosis is very common, rodents, fly’s and other rabbits can carry the disease and it is fatal.  Your vet can vaccinate against this it is recommended every six months but the Myxomatosis season is from May to October.

There are also other vaccines available for rabbits which you can discuss with you vet.

If you handle your new rabbit from a early age at least half an hour a day you will find your rabbit will become tame and manageable and learn to trust you.
